Batteries Powered by Iron and Water Will Transform the Grid
Project Showcase – Burbank Water & Power
This video showcases ESS Tech, Inc.’s (ESS’) installation at Burbank Water & Power (BWP), a municipal utility located in the heart of the entertainment industy, just outside Los Angeles, California.
The ESS unit is located on BWP’s Eco Campus, connected to a solar array immediately adjacent to their headquaters. BWP is dedicated to providing reliable, safe electricity to their customers while ensuring reasonable cost. BWP has a new challenge – how to continue that legacy of service while also achieving ambitious decarbonization targets admist increased load growth. With the move to renewables, to support that growth, the common solution to these challenges is flexible, long-duration energy storage.
ETS@Sacramento 2024 Fireside Chat
ESS CEO Eric Dresselhuys joined Lora Anguay, Chief Zero Carbon Officer for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), to discuss the critical role that ESS technology will play in achieving SMUD’s ambitious decarbonization goals.
Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate Manufacturing Expansion
ESS became the first energy storage manufacturer to be supported by the Make More in America Initiative of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) with the recent approval of a $50 million financing package. ESS will use the proceeds from the deal to expand production of the company’s proprietary iron flow battery (IFB) modules.

Pennsylvania microgrid
This video showcases the installation of a microgrid project that includes an ESS Energy Warehouse™ system at an industrial recycling facility in West Grove, Pennsylvania. The project was developed by TerraSol Energies, Inc., a developer and operator of turnkey solar and storage solutions for commercial customers.
The ESS Energy Warehouse™ is integrated with a 115 kW DC solar array to form a microgrid which will reduce peak electricity demand and provide back-up at Sycamore International, a technology recycling company working to enable a global circular economy. The project was showcased at a ribbon-cutting event at the Sycamore International industrial recycling facility, with attendees including U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06).
