ESS Inc.’s iron flow batteries are now UL9540A certified

Increased deployment of energy storage systems in the field has led to a heightened awareness from regulators and utilities of the fire-risk of different technologies, especially lithium-ion. ESS is pleased to announce that our battery modules have been certified by UL to pose no risk of fire propagation.

Complying with the UL 9540A test method speaks to the inherently clean, safe, and sustainable chemistry of our battery systems.

Can We Feed The Clean Energy Beast With Raw Materials Using Fewer Imports?

Last week, CEO Eric Dresselhuys participated at a webinar hosted by the United States Energy Association where environmental concerns were expressed over sustainable mining and extraction practices as the electrification trend in America’s energy sector continues to surge forward.

Dresselhuys says that the United States will never be able to out-mine China and other emerging nations that lack rigorous environmental regulations. Therefore, this country should focus on building better and cheaper battery technologies — not on the exploration of raw materials.

ESS Inc hits back at EPRI director’s ‘long-duration lithium’ comments

Lithium-ion will struggle to compete at long durations and its price declines cannot continue forever, said Alan Greenshields, Director EMEA for ESS Inc, in a written statement in response to EPRI’s Director of distributed energy resources and energy storage, who stated that alternative energy storage technologies could struggle to compete with lithium-ion as the latter could reach cost-competitiveness at up to even 24 hours duration by the end of the decade.
